RePill
The pharmaceutical industry is one of the biggest contributors to waste in the environment and this brief asked me to reconsider the blister packaging for medication.
After researching 'sustainable' alternatives I found that they often harm the environment in other ways.
I decided that the most effective way to cut down on waste would be to press pills on demand and store them into reusable containers.
RePill is a product I designed that acts as a vending machine to press and dispense pills on demand.
After gaining some feedback on the product, I realised that I had not considered the patient information leaflet - which is obviously important in preventing misuse and overdose for example.
I designed a prototype of an app that would allow users to track their prescriptions and also provide the patient information under each one.
Another problem that I addressed was how to prevent the wrong medication being dispensed due to any mechanical errors. A built in feature on the app would use the devices’ camera to scan the pill and identify it from a verified database of current medication. This way users can check that they have dispensed the correct medication if in doubt.
